What is the SVA?

 

Single Vehicle Approval is required for Light Conversions of US vehicles (visiting military personnel only), including SUVs such as Ford F150, Chevrolet Avalanche and Toyota Tundra. These vehicles require a Class 7 MOT.

 

Temporary vehicle imports by visiting US Forces personnel have exemption from the SVA, as long as there is proof that U.K. vehicle condition requirements are met i.e. light conversion may be needed to meet U.K. standards.

 

Before registration of any foreign-made vehicle, including vehicles that are less than 3 years old, you are required to prove compliance by obtaining an MOT certificate.

 

Only nominated stations can provide an MOT certificate with the SVA stamp provided by the Vehicle Inspectorate.

R H Turner Motor Vehicle Engineers is a nominated Vehicle Inspectorate Station and can provide MOT tests and light conversions for all types of US and other non-UK spec. vehicles.

Types of MOT Tests Available:

  • Class 1 (Motorcycles under 200cc)

  • Class 2 (Motorcycles over 200cc)

  • Class 4 (Cars, Camper Vans, Quads, Ambulances, Taxis, Minibuses up to 12 seats)

  • Class 7 (Vans, Pick-Ups, SUVs and HGVs up to 3500kg, including US spec. vehicles)

  • SVA (visiting military personnel only)

VAT relief is available for visiting USA Armed Forces personnel.
